A Labor Day Message

As individuals, families, and friends prepare for the Labor Day festivities (often by running to the grocery store for last-minute bar-b-que items), we find it helpful to remember the underlying message of the holiday. Labor Day is more than a simple day set aside for picnics and time off work. Labor Day celebrates the industrious nature of the American laborer, which has contributed to building up the strength and character of our nation. It is with this perspective that we would like to celebrate the mental health professionals who dedicate themselves to honest and effective approaches aimed at supporting those amongst us in crisis. A nation is only as strong as its citizens. To those who work on fortifying our nation on the individual level of mental health, Thank You.
Despite the fanfare, parades and food, holidays are not always easy for the best of us, especially those in the midst of battling with depression or anxiety. For those of you who are actively seeking residential treatment for mental health, we encourage you to ask questions of each prospective facility before being admited to ensure that you feel comfortable with the setting AND therapeutic approach. Consider if the facility's division of labor reflects an emphasis on mental health treatment or mere aesthetics. According to one anonymous former staff or patient at Malibu Vista: "The bed linens received more attention than the clients." If the linens are changed daily to impress prospective clients touring the gounds while the clinical rounds for current clients occur once a week, consider a different facility.

Over the next few weeks, we at MalibuVistaExp will be collaborating with other online resources and directories to offer you further guidance for selecting the optimal treatment center for your specific needs and preferences.
